2009 Pledge Partner
Camp Ta-Kum-Ta for kids with cancer
The Lake Champlain Dragon Boat Festival is pleased to announce that our 2009 Pledge Partner is Vermont’s Camp Ta-Kum-Ta for kids with cancer. Camp Ta-Kum-Ta is a summer camp program providing challenging, extraordinary experiences in a safe and loving environment for kids diagnosed with cancer. Any Vermont child or child receiving treatment in Vermont aged 7-17 can attend camp at no cost to the family. And this year Camp Ta-Kum-Ta needs our community more than ever.
A New Challenge
For 24 years Camp Ta-Kum-Ta has taken place in August at Camp Holy Cross on the shores of Malletts Bay, in Colchester. However, early in 2008 the Board received some difficult news: the facility would no longer be available for 2009 and thereafter. A new home would have to be found quickly in order for the Camp to continue its critical mission. A search began immediately for a permanent home, and, thanks to some wonderful individuals, the Board announced in August 2008 that Camp Ta-Kum-Ta would move to the former Willey Farm in the South Hero. There, a new camp will be built from scratch and a capital campaign is under way.
Help us Build the Camp Ta-Kum-Ta Activities Building: Our 2009 Goal-$75,000
Our dream is to build one of two Activities Buildings at the new site. This year’s festival proceeds will go toward that important construction project. When you support the Lake Champlain Dragon Boat Festival you’ll help build a dream, nail by nail, board by board. So, join us for a fabulous day of fun and fundraising. Our amazing Vermont community can make it happen! To learn more about the planned activities building, click here to view all the details. Together we’ll build a lasting legacy for Vermont’s kids.
